   INTRODUCTIONS:
   --------------

Our November meeting will be a Field Trip to Apple to learn about
OS/X. The meeting has an earlier start time to accommodate our
speakers/hosts. Apple had just confirmed a couple of days ago
(which lead to the short notice), although we had announced a
tentative trip to Apple at our last meeting.

Note: Apple told us that we have a 30 person limitation at the
meeting, and RSVP will be required. If more than 30 people
show up on site, it may have to be first-come first-serve,
or someone may have to leave (perhaps to catch a train,
etc.) to let the next person in. We'll have to see how
this works out (we did not know about this limitation
         going in).

Apple OS/X is supposed to be very similar (or nearly identical)
to FreeBSD... it will be interesting to hear about the
   similarities and differences.

3. PREVIOUS MEETING
   ----------------

Unigroup would like to thank Bruce Grant from SCOx Engineering and
Gerrald Smith from SCO for presenting at our October 2004 meeting
on Web Services. Jonathan Schilling, a Java Architect from SCO
(and Unigroup attendee), was also there to answer technical questions.

Gerrald gave us a product roadmap and Bruce gave us the technical
presentation. Bruce clearly is a _HUGE_ evangelist for Web Services
and he declared them the future of the Web (and he demonstrated
how and why they are so important). He showed us what they do,
how they are programmed/accessed, and gave us a demo of how easily
(with a little help from some helper applications) you can take
   legacy character-based command-line Unix/Linux applications and
convert them into web/graphical web-service based systems. Some
of us at the meeting left thinking "what have we been missing,
we need to get into this technology ASAP."

SCO sponsored the food service for that meeting and provided 10 NFR
full product sets (probably each worth between $1000-$2000 retail)
as giveaways. Combined with a set of books from Prentice Hall and
O'Reilly that we also raffled off, we had a nice collection of items
to give away to the audience.
